Ilse Patterson is the Lead MR Research Radiographer at Cambridge University Hospitals, a role she has held for over 24 years. Working in close collaboration with research scientists from the University of Cambridge’s Department of Radiology, she has co-authored more than 40 publications and developed extensive expertise in optimising MR protocols for both clinical and research purposes.

Ilse has made a particular contribution to the development of safe imaging protocols for patients with complex implants, including cochlear implants, cardiac pacemakers, deep brain stimulators, and neuro stimulators — an area where precision and patient safety are paramount. She teaches MR Clinical Applications across the UK and is a member of the ISMRT governing board committee, as well as the Nursing and Allied Health Professionals steering group at Cambridge University Hospitals.

Her contributions to the field have been recognised at international level, including Best MR Proffered Paper at SMRT Singapore 2016, second prize for Best Clinical Poster at SMRT Stockholm 2010, best presentation at BAMMR 2008, and two prizes at SMRT Montreal 2019. Ilse’s career represents an outstanding example of research excellence in direct service of better patient outcomes.
