Andrew Grainger

Dr Andrew Grainger is a Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist at Cambridge University Hospitals. His subspecialty interests focus particularly on sports imaging and imaging arthritis.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Grainger is actively involved in medical education. He supervises anatomy at Peterhouse and teaches radiology and anatomy at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. For the 2023-2024 academic year, Dr Grainger will serve as acting co-director of studies for pre-clinical medicine in the College.

Dr Grainger’s expertise in sports imaging extends to both amateur and professional athletes across a wide variety of sports. Notably, he served on the organising committee to provide imaging for the London 2012 Olympics and has contributed his skills to other major sporting events.

His research is clinically focused, with a particular emphasis on imaging biomarkers for arthritis. Dr Grainger’s academic contributions are substantial, with over 150 peer-reviewed publications and invited reviews to his name. He has also authored 25 book chapters and edited 7 books.

Mr Andrew Grainger has a financial interest in the practice as he holds a directorship position and a significant shareholding (<5%) in Momentm Health Limited; Momentm Health Limited owns all equipment.

Dr Grainger’s standing in his field is reflected in his service on British, European, and International radiology society committees. Currently, he holds the prestigious position of President of the British Society of Skeletal Radiology.

His recent publications include co-editing “Post-operative Imaging of Sports Injuries” (Springer, 2020) and contributing a chapter on arthritis to “Musculoskeletal Diseases 2021-2024: Diagnostic Imaging” (Springer, 2021). Dr Grainger continues to publish extensively in peer-reviewed journals, covering topics such as rheumatological disorders, shoulder instability, and osteoarthritis.
