Stephen McDonnell
Meet Stephen McDonnell, a dedicated knee specialist who is here to help you get back on your feet. As a University Associate Professor at the University of Cambridge and an Honorary Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Prof. McDonnell brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his patients.
Born and raised in London, Prof. McDonnell’s journey in medicine began at University College London. His passion for helping people move better led him to specialise in orthopaedics, training at prestigious institutions such as the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, and even spending time Down Under with The Melbourne Orthopaedic Group in Australia.
Prof. McDonnell is particularly enthusiastic about knee care. Whether you’re a weekend warrior with a sports injury, someone struggling with arthritis pain, or in need of a joint replacement, he has you covered. He is especially skilled in minimally invasive procedures like keyhole surgery (arthroscopy).

Mr Stephen McDonnell has a financial interest in the practice as he holds a directorship position and a significant shareholding (>5%) in Momentm Health Limited; Momentm Health Limited owns all equipment.
One of Prof. McDonnell’s specialties is joint preservation knee surgery, which restores function after a subsequent injury. For joint replacements, he believes less is more; with a partial knee replacement, this technique can often provide excellent results with less extensive surgery, less risk of complications, and a quicker recovery than a total knee replacement.
Prof. McDonnell is deeply involved in research and education, regularly sharing his expertise through lectures and publications. He is passionate about inspiring the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons.
